Gift of Hope is an initiative born out of memory and generosity to transform pain into real opportunities. When someone close passes away, the desire arises to honor their memory through actions that benefit others. “At YumaKids we have received that impulse to strengthen the mental health of children and young people in vulnerable situations in Colombia,” says its current president.
The campaign seeks not only to acknowledge loss but also to turn it into a driver of change with a direct impact on communities facing serious barriers to accessing emotional and psychological support. Each donation provides resources for prevention, care, and support programs that operate under principles of comprehensive care, a human rights perspective, and a psychosocial approach to mental health.
Through this act of solidarity, YumaKids has worked to expand service coverage, reduce the stigma associated with mental disorders, and promote protective environments in homes, schools, and communities. Contributions make it possible to train professionals, develop educational materials, and facilitate early interventions that can truly change the lives of children and adolescents living in vulnerable conditions.
Raising awareness and making mental health issues visible in the country is central to generating effective responses. When society becomes aware of the magnitude and impact of mental disorders among young people, stronger support systems, resources, and public policies are mobilized. Reports from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, among other reliable sources, indicate that in Colombia a significant percentage of adolescents experience symptoms of anxiety and depression, and that the demand for psychological care exceeds the available supply in many regions. Reports from mental health organizations and records from psychological care services highlight the gap between need and access, as well as the positive effect of early and community-based interventions in reducing crises and fostering resilience.
Transparency is a priority: every peso is directed toward verifiable initiatives that prioritize the safety, dignity, and well-being of those served. This commitment to accountability ensures that the memory of those who are no longer with us continues to generate human and social value.
Through this initiative, and in collaboration with Funeraria San Pedro, the Foundation supports and invites loved ones to join efforts in continuing its social mission. With every donation, a network of support is strengthened, accompanying new generations of Colombians on their path toward emotional stability, resilience, and the hope of a healthier future.
