Strengthening teachers at Institución Educativa San Francisco in a rural area

This is some text inside of a div block.

During the month of April, a new session of the Teacher Group was held at Institución Educativa San Francisco, located in a rural area of the Tolima department (Colombia), with the participation of professionals from Fundación Yumakids.

In Colombia, around 30% of students attend rural schools, according to the Ministry of National Education. This reality brings significant challenges in terms of access to resources, working conditions for teachers, and psychosocial support. In this context, strengthening the emotional well-being of educational teams in rural territories becomes especially relevant.

This intervention is part of the fieldwork developed by the organization across different educational contexts, aimed at working with school teams and strengthening teachers’ emotional well-being in their daily practice.

The group is a working methodology that allows education professionals to reflect on their relationship with students, especially in contexts of high emotional complexity. Through the shared analysis of real situations, it fosters an understanding of relational dynamics, awareness of the emotional impact of the teaching role, and the construction of collective coping resources.

In this space, teachers are able to share meaningful experiences from their practice, within a setting of listening and reflection facilitated by specialized professionals. This process helps reduce feelings of professional isolation and strengthens the care of those who support children and adolescents on a daily basis.

Fieldwork in rural contexts allows these methodologies to be adapted to specific educational realities, where resources and structural conditions may present additional challenges. This close and context-sensitive approach enhances the relevance and sustainability of the support processes.

The session held on April 16 at Institución Educativa San Francisco is part of the ongoing commitment to strengthening community mental health through work with teachers, recognizing their fundamental role in building healthier and more protective educational environments.
